The inspiration for texttag came from an incident involving my
father. He lived by himself along with his rescue golden retriever, Molly. 

He arrived home one evening as usual and headed off to bed.
However, on the way, he fell, resulting in a head injury. As he lay there dazed and unable to get up, he realized that he didn’t have any way to contact someone for help. His cell phone was on the counter, and he hadn’t made it to the bedroom where his personal safety pendant was sitting on the nightstand. What he did have however was Molly. She was right there curious as always about what was going on. She was comforting but she couldn’t do much beyond that. Fortunately, everything worked out for my father.

As time went on, I thought about this incident, and it occurred to me that the quizzical nature of our pets could provide another avenue for pet owners to contact help in an emergency. One that is simple and inexpensive as well as one that won’t be on the counter or nightstand, but rather will always be there when we need them.
