Frequently asked questions
How many people can I have the texttag™ app send text messages to?
TextTag™ users have the option of adding four separate phone numbers into the contact portion of the app. We recommend considering family, friends and housemates, as well as neighbors, in-home medical providers, or any other trusted individuals in proximity.
Senders are encouraged to let selected recipients know about TextTag™ and how it works prior to an actual emergency so the texts are understood when received.
Does the texttag™ app use my cell provider's text messaging?
No, the TextTag app uses a third-party text application built into the app for both iOS and Android.
Those receiving texts will see an incoming number with an 844 prefix. We suggest giving recipients a heads up about this, so they do not disregard the emergency text.
Won’t my dog's texttag™ button get accidentally pushed?
TextTag activation requires the button be held for 2 seconds, which hopefully eliminates the possibility for accidental activation.
However, to mitigate potential accidents, it is suggested that recipients of a TextTag message call the sender to be sure there is an actual emergency before shifting into action. A no answer would certainly warrant further investigation.
How far will the texttag™ button reach?
The TextTag button uses advanced Bluetooth to communicate with the TextTag phone app. Though the latest in technology, Bluetooth communication has limits and can be affected by walls and floors, as well as distance.*
In real world testing, we had success communicating with the TextTag app within a 2400 sq. ft two-story house from one end of the second floor to the other end of the house on the first floor. Obviously individual results will vary.
I have a cell phone and a personal safety pendant. Why would I need this?
That’s a good question. In my father’s case, he set his phone on the kitchen counter but had yet to make it to the bedroom where his personal safety pendant was on the nightstand. TextTag™ fills this gap in personal safety without loss of autonomy.
Furthermore, unlike a cell phone or a personal safety pendant, TextTag™ is a one-time purchase with a minimal annual text service fee. Not to mention, it's a great gift for any older pet owner who has everything.
Are there any ongoing fees with texttag™?
No there are no ongoing fees. TextTag is a one-time purchase.
What type of message do I put for my emergency text?
We recommend a clear, brief message that can be easily understand by your recipients. It is also recommended your message contain your full name (Mary Smith) rather than mom or Mary in your message to eliminate any confusion by the text recipient.
Informing TextTag™ recipients prior to an actual emergency supports better results from the TextTag™ system. We also recommend establishing an appropriate emergency protocol with recipients, such as calling to see if the sender answers or not. A no answer would certainly indicate that further follow up is warranted.
